Fri. Feature: Happy National Pet Day!

national pet dayWhile there are also holidays such as National Dog Day and National Cat Day, National Pet Day is special because celebrators can recognize any and all pets (good news for exotics).  Beyond showering a pet with extra love, National Pet Day proclaims, “Don’t Shop! Adopt!” as its official motto.  If you have today off and are a dog owner, then there are plenty of ways to honor the holiday.  For instance, search for a pet-friendly business or restaurant that plans to hold an event for pet owners.

Shack ShackToday, pet owners (& prospective pet owners) in Philadelphia, PA will patronize “Shack Shack,” a burger and shake favorite among locals in the King of Prussia area of the Upper Merion Township.  What makes Shack Shack special for pet owners is its embrace of the rescue group, New Leash On Life.  By hosting a meet and greet today, Shack Shack is able to satisfy customers’ appetites while simultaneously saving the lives of recently adopted rescue dogs.  New Leash On Life does more than raise awareness for dog adoption; they also manage a voluntary correctional program aimed at lowering recidivism rates among inmates.  The two causes they support are certainly noble and we hope to see more businesses like Shack Shack that welcome pets with water bowls and treats.
